What is Nose Tip Rhinoplasty?

Nose Tip Rhinoplasty is a nasal procedure which reshapes the tip of the nose.

The operation is most suited to patients who have good bone structure who do not want to drastically change the appearance of their nose but instead are seeking slight improvements. This includes lifting the tip of the nose, correcting deformity or addressing the length of the nose.

Performed under local anaesthesia in a clinic environment, nose suspension is a painless procedure which takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. The patient is left without scarring and full healing time is expected within three weeks, making it a popular choice for anyone seeking to improve the appearance of their nasal tip.

Surgical rhinoplasty is a much more invasive procedure than both the rhinoplasty suspension and non-surgical rhinoplasty. A particular rhinoplasty technique called rhino-tip surgery changes the shape of the nose by modifying the structure of the underlying cartilage, creating the perfect nasal tip. However this is expensive, invasive and involves more downtime than a nose tip lift. A nose suspension is also a much quicker procedure than nose surgery, which can take upwards of an hour.

How does it work?

A nose tip lift is a straightforward, yet effective, procedure to lift a drooping tip, shorten an overly-long nose or generally improve a person’s profile. It is minimally invasive and involves no incisions, leaving no scars behind. Unlike surgical rhinoplasty, a nose lift requires no broken bones or nose splints.

Before undergoing rhinoplasty suspension, you will be shown 3D simulations to illustrate the new shape and results of the procedure.

The nose requires three weeks to set into its new shape. As part of the healing process, you will be asked to wear dressings covering the nose which should be kept in place for four to five days after your nose lift. These dressings help to protect the new shape of the nose.

It is highly unlikely that you will experience any swelling of discomfort following your nose tip lift. In the case of any minor to moderate pain, you may take over-the-counter painkillers.

It is vital that you follow all aftercare instructions issued by your surgeon to help aid the healing process and to keep your nose tip in its new position.

Frequently Asked Questions

As with all procedures, your consultant will review your medication and make a number of recommendations ahead of the procedure. You should stop using all kinds of blood thinners ahead of a nose thread lift. Types of blood thinners include warfarin and aspirin.

We strongly recommend that you limit your alcohol consumption ahead of the nose suspension procedure, and cut back on smoking. Ideally we would like you to cease both of these activities before undergoing a nose lift.

Because there is no intervention with the bones and due to the fact that the operation is very short, nose suspension is a painless procedure. Any pain that may arise is easily controlled with pain killers.

Tiny holes are made with injections rather than incisions so the patient is left without any scarring.

The paper bands which are fitted post-surgery should be kept in place for 4-5 days to ensure the nose keeps its new shape. Patients should be vigilant to avoid any impact to the nose. Patients should also refrain from taking blood thinning medication and avoid any food which may cause an allergic reaction.

The recovery period for a nose tip lift is remarkably quick. Dressings must be kept in place for five days and you must be very careful to avoid any impact to the face during this time as this may cause the nose to collapse. It would be best to avoid any activities which will increase the blood pressure, such as certain types of exercise and sexual activity, during this period. Your surgeon will be able to advise you further on this.

Your nose will be fully recovered in three weeks.

Nose tip lift results can be seen immediately. Rhinoplasty suspension produces permanent results.

However, you must take great caution in the two weeks immediately after the procedure. During this period, if the delicate threads holding up the tip are broken, the nose will drop or collapse, with the nasal tip reverting back to its pre-procedure state. Further procedures would be required to restore the tip of the nose.

By three weeks, the nose should be fixed into its new position, and will remain there even if the threads are broken.

It is recommended that patients are a least 18 years of age before undergoing nose suspension. As with all surgical procedures, it is advised that patients have finished developing.

There will be no need to break the nasal bone for a rhinoplasty suspension.

In a surgical rhinoplasty, it is a common practice to fracture the nasal bones near where they join the face. Surgical nose reduction requires the removal of cartilage and bone. As a nose tip lift only concerns the fleshy tip of the nose, then this breaking and removal of bone is not required for this particular procedure.

The nose will be fully set three weeks post-procedure and will not drop or collapse, regardless of whether the suspensions are released. However if the suspensions are released within the two weeks immediately following the procedure, the nose will return to its original form. A further procedure will be required to reinstate the new nasal tip. You must take great care to avoid impact or trauma to the nose during this time and avoid any activity which will raise your blood pressure.

Paper bands are used to protect and support the shape of the nose for 4-5 days post-surgery. Splints are not required in a nose suspension procedure.

A nose tip lift is not appropriate for those under the age of 18 as the body is still developing.

If you require more extensive nose reshaping or help to tackle other issues such as breathing problems caused by a deviated septum, then a surgical nose job would be the best option for you.

Nose suspension results are permanent, so if you are unsure whether to take the plunge, it may be worth opting for non-surgical rhinoplasty so you can ‘try out’ a new nose tip first. A non-surgical nose job is not permanent and can be reversed.
