How to make your nose smaller

The most effective way to make your nose smaller is via a surgical nose operation.

All nose shapes are normal and, unless they are causing you breathing difficulties, should be regarded as perfectly healthy.

That said, some people with larger noses can feel self-conscious, leading to feelings of anxiety and a lack of self-confidence and self-esteem. If the size or shape of a person’s nose is having a real impact upon their mental health, then a nose operation is by far and away the most effective treatment to reduce the size of the nose.

How can I reduce the size of my nose?

The most effective and permanent way of reducing the size of the nose is a type of surgery called rhinoplasty.

Dermal fillers can also be used if a person did not want to undergo surgery, by what is called ‘non-surgical rhinoplasty', but in reality are better at adding volume rather than reducing it.

How can I make my nose smaller naturally?

There aren’t any scientifically-proven ways of making the nose smaller naturally and any promises made to this effect should be treated with great caution and care.

There are some make-up techniques that can give the nose the appearance of being smaller, but again these are only temporary solutions.

Can you make your nose smaller without surgery?

There are a lot of strange remedies which people claim will make the nose shrink, including applying ice, a paste of garlic extract, toothpaste, apple cider vinegar, ginger powder or other anti-inflammatory ingredients.

There is absolutely no scientific evidence to show that any of these methods actually work to alter nose size. There are also various exercises which purport to make the nose smaller, some using special nose clips. There is no evidence that these work either.

If someone does want to avoid surgery, the only way to alter nose shape is through non-surgical rhinoplasty. During this procedure, the Cadogan Clinic experts will inject a temporary filler called Juvederm into the structure of the nose.

This dermal filler will even out bumps, divots or other asymmetries. It is non-invasive and the results can be seen immediately. However, this is only a temporary fix and the effect will only last for up to six months.

Words from our clients:

What is surgical nose contouring?

Nose contouring is a cosmetic surgery procedure for reshaping and refining the profile of the nose. This can alter the size or shape of a person’s nose. This procedure is often colloquially referred to as a “nose job”.

Nose contouring is carried out with the patient only just asleep under total intravenous anaesthesia, Depending on your requirements, the Cadogan Clinic surgeon will remove some cartilage and bone to reduce the size of the nose, or rearrange or add to the cartilaginous and bony skeleton if the goal is to change the shape of the nose.

Contrary to popular belief, nose contouring surgery is not painful, although some people may feel a degree of discomfort and some minor symptoms following the procedure, such as a blocked nose.

We usually recommend our nose contouring patients to take at least one week off work, as you will be wearing a splint for up to ten days. There will be some swelling and bruising below the eyes if the nasal bones have been fractured. This is completely normal and will subside within the ten days. Patients should avoid strenuous exercise for at least two weeks following the operation.

Non-surgical rhinoplasty is a safe, non-invasive alternative to traditional rhinoplasty. Sometimes called the '15 minute nose job' as a quick treatment of dermal filler is all that is needed to reshape the nose completely.

The operation is most suited to patients who have good bone structure who are not wishing to drastically change the appearance of their nose but are seeking slight improvements such as lifting the tip, correcting deformity or addressing the length of the nose.

The nose is the central feature of the face and how it looks can determine how we feel about our overall appearance. Rhinoplasty refers to a group of surgical procedures that change the size, shape and position of the nose to provide an effective solution for the many people who are unhappy with the aesthetic appearance of their nose. It is also commonly performed as a medical procedure to correct breathing issues and to help alleviate the symptoms of sleep apnoea, and is consequently one of the most common cosmetic surgery procedures performed across the world.
