Plastic Surgery
Over the last few years cosmetic gynaecological surgical procedures have become increasingly popular as they have begun to be viewed as straightforward and effective solutions to the most personal of problems.
Cosmetic Gynaecology surgery encompasses surgical procedures that address changes affecting the vulva, vagina and surrounding genital tissues. These changes may be associated with childbirth, ageing, genetics or changes in body weight and can include excess or stretched tissue, loss of muscular strength, asymmetry, irritation, discomfort or changes in sexual function.
Some women seek treatment because these changes cause physical symptoms which affect everyday activities, exercise or sexual relationships. Others are concerned about changes in the appearance or proportions of the genital tissues. During consultation, your specialist surgeon will assess your individual anatomy and any physical symptoms before determining whether surgery is appropriate.
Patients who have experienced childbirth may develop changes to the vaginal tissues and supporting structures, including a sensation of reduced vaginal tone or changes in muscle tone. Vaginoplasty, also known as vaginal tightening surgery, may be considered where surgical treatment is appropriate. The procedure involves surgical repair and tightening of the vaginal tissues.
Labiaplasty surgery involves reducing or reshaping the labia. Enlarged, elongated or asymmetric labial tissue can, in some patients, cause discomfort, irritation or pulling during exercise, sexual activity or when wearing tight clothing. Labiaplasty may also be considered in cases where a patient has concerns about the appearance or asymmetry of the labia.
A Hoodectomy involves reducing excess tissue forming the clitoral hood. In some patients, redundant tissue may cause physical discomfort or interfere with access to the clitoris. Your surgeon will assess the anatomy and determine whether surgical reduction is appropriate.
For all cosmetic gynaecology procedures, our specialist consultant surgeons will discuss your concerns, medical history and desired outcome during a one-to-one consultation. They will assess your individual anatomy and explain the potential benefits, limitations and risks before recommending whether surgery is appropriate.
