Cadogan Clinic Referral Process

1	Send the referral	By secure email, telephone or letter
2	What to include	Patient's name, date of birth, address and phone number Reason for referral and how long symptoms have lasted Treatment history Relevant history, current medicines (including GLP-1 medicines) and allergies Investigation results and imaging Urgency, and any capacity, safeguarding or communication needs Insurer and authorisation number, if the patient is insured
3	Consultant triage	You can either refer to a named consultant or a consultant in the relevant speciality will review your referral within 24 hours We will send confirmation that we have accepted the referral, or recommend an alternative pathway.
4	Consultant assessment	Your patient sees the consultant, who records the examination, measurements and tests the condition needs, then gives a written plan. If surgery is indicated, patients have at least 14 days to decide before any surgery
5	Clinic letter	You receive a letter after each consultation and procedure, and a discharge summary when we return the patient to your care. After every consultation: diagnosis, examination findings and measurements, and the plan. If treatment would be for appearance rather than the condition you referred, the letter says so. What was done, medicines on discharge, follow-up arrangements and anything you need to action

Regulation	The Cadogan Clinic is a CQC-registered independent hospital (Personal Health Service Limited). Rated Good overall and Outstanding for well-led (13 February 2023). In 2025, the clinic saw 19,000 patients and carried out 1,900 surgical general anaesthetic procedures.
Medical Advisory Committee and Oversight	Our consultants are Handpicked by our Meidcal Director. Every consultant is on the GMC Specialist Register for the speciality they practise. Practising privileges are reviewed every 2 years against scope of practice, activity, outcomes, appraisal and indemnity. Annual appraisal and revalidation are run through a structured appraisal system.
Surgical Audit Meetings	Surgical audit meetings review every surgeon's outcomes: complications, returns to theatre, unplanned transfers, surgical site infections and patient-reported outcome scores. Findings and actions are minuted and followed up at the next meeting.
Skin Cancer MDT	Skin cancer multidisciplinary team meetings of consultant dermatologists, Mohs surgeons and plastic surgeons and dermatopathologists review every skin cancer diagnosis, excision margin and treatment plan.
Outcomes and Registries	Validated outcome scores recorded before and after treatment. Data submitted to the Private Healthcare Information Network (PHIN) and the BCIR Implant Registry
Research and Outcomes	Cadogan Clinic is a plastic surgery centre of medical excellence, producing research, pioneering treatments and delivering training in the field of plastic surgery and dermatological medicine.
GP and Specialist Survey	We take annual surveys of our referrer colleagues to plan our services to meet local referrer need

Do patients need a referral for procedures and treatment at Cadogan Clinic?

No. You can direct patients to book directly with a consultant. A referral gives us your clinical history and lets us report back to you.

How are patients funded?

Self-funding or private medical insurance (BUPA, AXA, Vitality, WPA)

Can I discuss a patient before referring?

Yes. Call the referrals team and we will arrange a call with the relevant consultant.

How soon will my patient be seen?

Routine assessments are offered within days of referral. Please tell us if the referral is urgent, so we can triage your patient appropriately.
