What is Septorhinoplasty?

Septorhinoplasty is a surgical procedure which improves the functionality and aesthetics of the nose. As well as enhancing the shape, size and contours of the nose through Rhinoplasty surgery, your surgeon will also carry out a Septoplasty to realign a deviated septum which addresses functional concerns such as breathing difficulties and snoring.

Septorhinoplasty is the most advanced Rhinoplasty technique available. It combines several separate procedures to comprehensively address a wider range of concerns in a single surgery.

What are the Benefits of Septorhinoplasty?

  • Improved nose contours & symmetry
  • Enhanced nose shape & proportions
  • Improved breathing
  • Reduced snoring and better sleep quality
  • Multiple procedures in a single surgery
  • Shorter recovery time
  • Improved sense of wellbeing

Why Do People Have Septorhinoplasty?

Aesthetic and functional concerns affecting the nose can impact an individual’s confidence and quality of life.

A Septorhinoplasty can effectively address these concerns in one procedure, reshaping and straightening the nose, whilst also manipulating the structures within the nose to improve breathing. Septorhinoplasty surgery is the most comprehensive Rhinoplasty procedure addressing both functional and aesthetic issues.

Typical corrections relate to the shape, size and alignment of the nose which can be influenced either by genetics or injury, as well as breathing and sinus difficulties that can make activities such as exercise and sleeping more difficult, and develop unwanted symptoms such as snoring.

Who Is Suitable for Septorhinoplasty?

Your surgeon will assess your suitability for Septorhinoplasty surgery during your consultation. They will discuss your concerns and reasons for considering Septorhinoplasty, before examining your nose, assessing your breathing and discussing your medical history.

Criteria which make a patient suitable for Septorhinoplasty include:

  • Having aesthetic concerns about the shape, size and/or alignment of your nose which are affecting your confidence
  • Having concerns about breathing or snoring which are affecting your quality of life
  • Being fit for general anaesthetic surgery

During your consultation, your surgeon will discuss these criteria with you and will explain the best treatment options to effectively address and resolve your concerns.

We have invited a selection of the country's very best consultants to join us at the Cadogan Clinic so that you can be sure that whatever the nature of your treatment, you will be seeing one of the top practitioners in the country.

How Does Septorhinoplasty differ from other Rhinoplasty procedures?

Unlike other Rhinoplasty procedures, Septo rhinoplasty is a fully comprehensive technique which addresses both functional and aesthetic concerns. It is often suited to patients who have experienced trauma or injury to their nose, which has affected the nose’s appearance as well as causing breathing difficulties. Although Septoplasty and Rhinoplasty can be performed as two separate surgeries, this may not be as effective as combining the procedures to ensure both the aesthetic work and the functional work complement each other.

Septorhinoplasty London is carried out as an open Rhinoplasty procedure as the internal structures of the nose have to be operated on as part of the surgery. Your consultant will discuss how this may affect your recovery and scarring, and they will show you where they will make the incisions to ensure they are as discrete as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your surgeon will assess your suitability for Septorhinoplasty London surgery during your consultation. To be suitable for Septorhinoplasty, you likely have both aesthetic and functional concerns about your nose that you are hoping to address.

Septorhinoplasty recovery usually takes 6-8 weeks. You will have a splint to support your nose for the first 7-10 days, and this will be removed by our specialist nurses. Swelling following Septorhinoplasty can take up to 6 months to fully resolve, and the final shape of your nose will be apparent after up to 12 months. Your surgeon will emphasise the need to be patient following Septorhinoplasty as the results can take time.

Although Septorhinoplasty can be carried out as two separate procedures - Septoplasty and Rhinoplasty, it is uncommon for a surgeon to recommend this approach. This is because it is easier to ensure the best all-round results when the procedures are carried out together.
