Rhinoplasty, colloquially known as a ‘nose job’, is one of the most popular procedures that we carry out here at the Cadogan Clinic.

A rhinoplasty procedure reshapes, corrects or reconstructs the nose to make it more aesthetically pleasing. A nose job can also be carried out to help with certain medical issues.

Here we take a look at male rhinoplasty.

Do men get nose jobs?

Yes, nose jobs for men are more common than you may think.

A rhinoplasty, or a 'nose job', is one of the five most common cosmetic surgery procedures in the UK, accounting for roughly 10 percent of all cosmetic procedures in 2019 alone. The procedure used to be associated more with women, but according to the latest statistics, rhinoplasty is now the most popular cosmetic procedure for men in the UK, with thousands of procedures carried out each year.

Should a man have a nose job?

If the size or shape of a man’s nose is affecting his self-esteem, causing unhappiness or even harming his mental health, then male rhinoplasty can help by making noses smaller, more prominent, slimmer, wider or ridding them of lumps and bumps. A surgical nose job for men is the most effective solution.

With social media channels such as Instagram putting our physical appearance under extra scrutiny, this has had an impact on how we want ourselves to be viewed by others. This in turn can have a negative impact on our self-confidence. Nose jobs for men can also help to correct damage sustained while playing sport, particularly contact sports such as rugby. Broken noses involve a partial or complete fracture of the bones within the nose. Whereas minor fractures can heal on their own, a more complex fracture will mean the nose needs to be re-set to its original position. Male rhinoplasty can help with this. Open rhinoplasty, a more invasive form of the surgery, is excellent for correcting noses injured through sports or other trauma.

The male nose job can also help to correct breathing issues and help alleviate the symptoms of snoring and sleep apnoea. Sleep apnoea is when a person’s breathing stops and starts while they sleep. The most common type is called obstructive sleep apnoea. Sleep apnoea can be serious if it's not diagnosed and treated. Here at the Cadogan Clinic, our surgeons would likely operate on the septum or turbinate which are blocking the airway, otherwise known as a septoplasty or submucosal resection (SM Resection). This type of nose surgery is known as septo-rhinoplasty.

How is a male rhinoplasty different?

A male nose job is no different to when the procedure is carried out on a woman. Both sexes can undergo the various rhinoplasty surgeries that we carry out at the Cadogan Clinic.

These include closed rhinoplasty, the most common type of nose operation, which leaves no external scars as all the incisions are made inside the nose, and rhino-tip surgery, which can create the perfect nose tip and eliminate conditions such as a big or crooked nose tip, flared nostrils or a hooked tip.

Male rhinoplasty is also an effective way of tackling the problem of a bulbous nose, a condition which is far more common in men than women. A bulbous nose is actually a characteristic of skin disorder rhinophyma. It is believed to be the result of poorly treated or untreated rosacea. The outcome is usually a large mass or swelling on the lower half of the nose. Although bulbous noses can be found all over the world, people from northern Europe are more susceptible to this.

How much is a male nose job?

A male nose job procedure starts from £6,900 at the Cadogan Clinic.

All costs quoted online are guide prices only, and subject to confirmation following your in person consultation. Given inevitable variations in facial anatomy between patients, nose job costs are also highly dependent on the complexity of the procedure required, and the technique employed.

Procedures in the UK are not subject to VAT as they are medical procedures.

For a cheaper alternative, non-surgical rhinoplasty starts from £550. This is a safe, non-invasive alternative to the traditional rhinoplasty and is sometimes referred to as the '15-minute nose job'.

The treatment lasts for up to a year, and delivers immediate, natural-looking and reversible results.

Non-surgical rhinoplasty is best suited for improving the appearance of any minor cosmetic imperfections. However, if a patient is seeking major long-lasting cosmetic and structural changes to the nose, surgical rhinoplasty for men is a better option.
