What is Male BBL?

Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) surgery is an increasingly popular procedure to add volume to your buttocks, and enhance the contours of your hips, abdomen, and thighs. Although this is a surgery typically associated with female patients, men are also interested in improving the appearance of their buttocks, while removing stubborn, excess fat around the abdomen and waist. Cadogan Clinic’s consultant surgeons are specialists in performing Male BBL surgery and providing high quality, natural surgical results, and the best standards of patient care.

What is Male BBL surgery?

Why & Who

Male Brazilian Butt Lift (Male BBL surgery) is a surgical procedure using fat transfer techniques to add volume and restore the shape of the buttocks, whilst enhancing the shape and contours of the abdomen, thighs, and hips. In Female BBL, the aim is often to increase the volume of the buttocks substantially, while creating a small (snatched) waist and adding extra curves to the hips. In contrast, the aim of Male BBL is often to create a more masculine figure, restoring lift to the buttocks, but often with less volume, and flattening the abdomen, whilst defining a muscular frame and creating a youthful appearance.

BBL for Men involves three steps (which are all performed as part of the same surgery). First your expert consultant surgeon will use Liposuction to remove fat from any areas that have excess or stubborn fat deposits. For the Male BBL, this is usually the abdomen, flanks, thighs and underneath the buttocks (the banana rolls). The fat is then treated to remove any impurities, and excess fluid, before it is injected into the buttocks. These fat injections are bespoke for every patient to give the most flattering and suitable results.

Why are men getting BBL surgery?

Although BBL surgery is usually associated with women, there are many reasons there is increasing interest in Male butt lift procedures and BBL for guys. Genetics and ageing can both cause a loss of volume in the buttocks, leaving them looking saggy or flat. Although men may not be looking for a dramatic increase in volume in their buttocks, a Male BBL procedure helps to lift the buttocks and restore lost tone.

Alongside the injection of fat into the buttocks, BBL surgery for men also involves Liposuction usually to the abdomen, thighs and under the buttocks (also known as banana rolls). This improves the contouring in these areas, defining muscles and restoring a youthful appearance to the area. Our specialist surgeons can also use Liposuction techniques such as etching, to define the lines around the 6-pack muscles, making them more obvious.

Words from our clients:

What are the benefits?

The main benefit of Male BBL is the restoration of volume, shape and lift in the buttocks, with enhanced contours to the midriff and thigh areas, creating a leaner appearance with more defined muscle structure.

Many male patients find that by enhancing their muscular appearance, this improves their self-confidence, making it easier to wear tight fitting clothing such as sportswear or taking part in activities such as sport without feeling self-conscious.

Some patients also combine surgery such as Male BBL, with other treatments including Morpheus8 for the body to tighten the skin and further enhance the results of their surgery.

Male BBL Shapes

Unlike most female patients, most male patients who are undergoing BBL surgery aren’t looking for an hourglass or overly round final shape to their buttocks. Instead, they are usually aiming for less volume, but with lift and possibly a more angular, or muscular appearing result. Whereas for Female BBL, the surgeon will discuss heart shaped or round buttocks as part of the result, in Male BBL, they are more likely to tell you about H-shaped or square buttocks, which are less rounded. Unlike in natural H-shaped buttocks, your surgeon will be avoiding making your buttocks look flat – but will be focusing on the overall slightly more angular appearance.

Having said all of this, our surgeons have also carried out hourglass male BBL procedures and are able to achieve a softer more rounded result on male patients.

Male BBL before and after

As part of your consultation, your surgeon will show you before and after photos of their previous BBL for men procedures, to show you the differences this surgery can make and show the results that are possible for you.

How long does it take to recover?

Recovery from Male BBL takes 6-8 weeks. In this time, you will be asked to wear a surgical garment to protect your surgical results and aid healing. During your recovery you will also need to sleep on your front and avoid putting pressure on your buttocks by sitting on a specialist BBL cushion.

Your surgeon will explain how you need to prepare for your Male BBL recovery at your consultation and will let you know about anything you will need ready at home in advance of your surgery.

Brazilian Butt Lift Surgeons

We have invited a selection of the country's very best consultants to join us at the Cadogan Clinic so that you can be sure that whatever the nature of your treatment, you will be seeing one of the top practitioners in the country.

The Male Brazilian Butt Lift procedure

When you decide to have Male BBL at Cadogan Clinic, what will your surgical journey involve and what will you need to do to prepare?

When you first contact Cadogan Clinic about Male BBL, you will speak with one of our dedicated surgical patient advisors. They will be able to answer any initial questions you may have about the procedure and our surgeons. They will also organise your consultations. You will have up to two consultations at our award-winning Chelsea based clinic with your surgeon to discuss Male Brazilian Butt Lift surgery and your desired results. Consultations are usually up to 60 minutes and your surgeon will examine your buttocks, as well as the areas you would like to be treated with Liposuction and explain the best approach for you.

Ahead of your consultation, we recommend writing down any questions you may have for your consultant, so you feel fully prepared. During your consultation, your surgeon will also complete a general health and wellness assessment, including your height, weight and blood pressure and take clinical photos for your records.

Following your consultation, your surgeon will then your surgical plan through to your patient advisor. This may include a few options for treatments or procedures that will address your concerns. If the surgeon has decided you are suitable for Male BBL surgery, your advisor will contact you to explain the plan, pricing and offer available surgical dates to you. You will then have a mandatory two week cooling off period to allow you to consider all the information you have been given and whether you would like to go ahead with surgery.

If you decide to proceed with Male BBL surgery, you will next visit the clinic on the day of your procedure. You will be asked to prepare for your procedure in the following way:

  • You will need to complete your pre-operative paperwork to allow your surgical team (surgeon, anaesthetist, and nurses) to review all of your medical and psychological information to ensure you are ready for surgery.
  • If you smoke or vape, your surgeon will ask you to stop for six weeks before surgery can take place. This is vital to ensure your recovery is smooth and you heal fully and properly.
  • You will also be asked to cut down on drinking alcohol as excessive alcohol consumption can also impact the healing and recovery process.
  • In the week before your procedure, you must avoid taking any anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen and aspirin, and any herbal supplements as these can increase the risk of bleeding
  • You will need to organise a chaperone to come and collect you after the surgery. This should be a family member or friend who can either drive you or accompany you in a taxi and stay overnight with you
  • In the 6 hours before you arrive at the clinic, you cannot eat any solid food or consume any juice or milk (including tea or coffee). You can have sips of clear liquids (water, or black tea and coffee) up to 2 hours before you arrive at the clinic

On your surgery day, you will be asked to arrive at the clinic an hour before your scheduled surgery time. You will speak with your surgeon, anaesthetist, and the nurses to ask any final questions, and to be prepared for surgery with any marking the surgeon may need to do.

You will then be taken into theatre, where your anaesthetist will administer your general anaesthetic, so you are asleep and unaware of your surgery. All procedures at Cadogan Clinic are performed using TIVA (Total Intravenous Anaesthesia) which minimises post-operative sickness and nausea and allows for a faster initial recovery – meaning you can go home faster.

Your surgeon will then carry out your Male BBL. After the procedure is complete, you wake up on our recovery ward, and a nurse will monitor your vital health signs. Once you are comfortable, you will be taken into our ambulatory ward where you will have something to eat and drink and a nurse will talk you through any medication and aftercare you need to understand once you leave. This will include how to use and look after your BBL cushion and garments. When you are ready, the nurses will ask your chaperone to come and collect you and you will be discharged.

The first few days following Male BBL may be slightly uncomfortable. Most patients are up and moving within 2-3 days and able to bathe normally within the first week.

You should expect some swelling and bruising in the surgical area which should heal within the first few weeks following surgery.

One week after your surgery you will have an appointment with our nurses so they can assess your incisions, remove any stitches, and make sure you are healing well. They will answer any questions you have at this stage and explain how to look after your dressings.

Six weeks after your procedure you will meet with your surgeon so they can discuss your recovery and results. After six weeks, if you have any questions or concerns, you will still be able to contact the team and speak with one of our specialist nurses.

The Patient Journey

Words from Our Founder

Mr. Bryan Mayou

Choosing a reputable Clinic and surgeon is very important for any cosmetic surgery, but this is particularly the case for more complex procedures such as BBL surgery. In the right hands these are extremely effective body contouring procedures that can yield excellent results. In inexperienced hands or the wrong hands, sadly there can be serious consequences. I always tell my patients that beyond the alluring sticker prices, cheap BBL surgery in places like Turkey and Eastern Europe usually indicate lower quality surgeons and lower quality, unregulated healthcare standards that can compromise their safety. They are to be strongly avoided.

The risks of a Male BBL

Before undergoing Brazilian Butt lift surgery, it is vital to be aware of the potential risks and complications. Your surgeon will discuss this with you during your consultation and will make sure you understand how they may impact your surgery and any steps you need to take to reduce your personal risks.

  • Hematoma - This is the build- up of blood beneath the skin and will require treatment from your surgeon
  • Poor wound healing - Healing complications or infection can affect the incision sites
  • Asymmetry - Occasionally, one side of the mons pubis may appear larger than the other
  • Seroma - This is the formation of a lump under the skin caused by buildup of fluid around the incision sites. This will require treatment from your surgeon.
  • Poor fat take – It is normal for up to 50% of fat the injected during your procedure to not take. In some cases, this may be more.

In the event of a complication or less than optimal outcome, a secondary surgery may be required. The need for a revision surgery can arise due to factors beyond the surgeon’s control. Our skilled consultant surgeons are qualified professionals who have performed BBL numerous times. The need for a secondary surgery, is not a reflection of your surgeon’s skill or qualifications.

It is also important to acknowledge that any surgical procedure carries a slight risk of:

  • Excessive bleeding
  • Allergic reaction to general anaesthetic
  • Infection at the surgical site
  • Deep vein thrombosis (blood clot in a vein)
