Best Clinic UK - Aesthetics Awards 2024
Revision Facelift, also known as a secondary Facelift, is a follow-up procedure which is carried out to alter or correct the results of an initial Facelift surgery.
Cadogan Clinic, London, is one of the UK’s leading tertiary patient care centres, accepting referrals from other providers to correct complex Facelift surgery performed elsewhere. 100% of Cadogan Clinic’s surgical patients would recommend the Clinic to their family and friends, and we maintain industry-leading safety and outcomes standards.
For all primary surgical procedures performed at Cadogan Clinic, the revision rate is 0.8%, compared with a national average of approximately 10%. These industry-leading statistics are a significant reason why surgical providers refer revision cases to us and trust Cadogan Clinic’s Consultant Facial Surgeons to provide the highest standards of patient care and results.
The results of a Facelift are highly visible, and unsatisfactory outcomes can affect expression, comfort and confidence. Patients may feel disheartened by disappointing results, especially when they were hoping that their initial Facelift would improve their confidence and quality of life. Undergoing effective Revision Surgery can restore a patient's confidence and trust in their procedure.
Depending on the patient’s concerns and the initial procedures performed, a surgeon may recommend combining Revision Facelift with a Revision Neck Lift to enhance the overall results.
Many patients who experience issues after a primary Facelift will have their concerns addressed by the same surgeon who performed their initial surgery. However, in some cases, it is necessary that secondary Facelift surgery is performed by a different surgeon:
It is important to remember that Revision Facelift surgery requires a higher level of surgical expertise due to the presence of scar tissue, altered anatomy, and the requirements of working with the results of the initial surgery.
The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons reports that primary Facelift was the 6th most popular surgical procedure among men and women in the UK, in 2025, rising from 7th place in 2024. If you are considering any surgical facial procedure, it is essential to find a highly experienced, specialist Consultant Facial Surgeon who can deliver your desired results, with the highest standards of patient care and safety.
A Revision Facelift is a secondary procedure which addresses concerns arising from an initial Facelift surgery.
It is important to understand that your Revision Facelift surgery may not directly reflect the initial procedure you underwent, depending on your concerns and desired results.
For example, if you previously had a Mini Facelift, but the outcomes have been impacted by trauma to the facial tissues, you are unlikely to have a specific Mini Facelift Revision. Instead, the Revision Facelift may involve a combination of reconstructive surgical techniques which primarily remodel the damaged tissue, improving health and function, and in turn improve the overall Facelift results.
In other cases, the Facelift Revision may be more reflective of the initial procedure. For example, where asymmetry has arisen due to an imbalance in how the tissues were manoeuvred on each side of the face, the secondary procedure may involve rebalancing the face, using similar techniques that were employed in the primary surgery. However, even in cases where the issue is clear, revision surgery is always more involved as the anatomy will be altered and scar tissue will be present.
Your Consultant Facial Surgeon will decide on the exact techniques required and the extent of your Revision Facelift during your initial consultation.
A Revision Facelift involves a wide range of surgical techniques, and the nature of your surgical plan may not always directly reflect the initial Facelift procedure you underwent.

Your Consultant Facial Surgeon will discuss what you can expect throughout your Facelift Revision in London at Cadogan Clinic at your initial consultation. Your personal surgical patient advisor, our pre-operative team and our specialist surgical nursing team will also be on hand throughout your time working with Cadogan Clinic to provide support and assistance at every stage.
The consultation
Every prospective Revision Facelift patient at Cadogan Clinic has up to two consultations with their Consultant Facial Surgeon to discuss their concerns, desired results and the best surgical option for them. All consultations usually last between 30-60 minutes, and involve an in-depth discussion with your surgeon about your personalised treatment plan and the results you can expect to achieve from your Revision Facelift.
Your personal surgical advisor will recommend that you write down any questions you have for your surgeon ahead of your consultation to help you prepare, and ensure that you get the most from your consultation. You will also be asked to bring any information you have about your initial Facelift procedure with you so your surgeon can understand what was involved and any concerns or complications that may have occurred in the time since.
Your surgeon will also take photos of your face from different angles for your medical records, and will discuss your overall medical history to ensure you are suitable for a general anaesthetic surgery.
If your surgeon decides that a Revision Facelift surgery is the best option to address your concerns, they will create a bespoke treatment plan which your patient advisor will discuss with you alongside the pricing and available dates. This is followed by a mandatory two-week cooling-off period to give you time to consider whether you want to go ahead with your Facelift Revision procedure. During this time, you can contact your patient advisor at any time to discuss any questions you have about the procedure or your personal plan.
Leading up to the procedure
If you choose to proceed with your Revision Facelift, you will next come back to Cadogan Clinic on the day of your surgery.
Your surgeon will provide personalised pre-operative instructions so you can prepare ahead of your surgery. Alongside any points personal to your needs, they typically include:
It is important to remember that if you do not follow your pre-operative instructions, your Revision Facelift may not be able to go ahead. Cadogan Clinic’s pre-operative team will be available throughout your surgery preparation to support you and answer any questions.
On the day
You will be asked to arrive at the Clinic an hour before your Revision Facelift is due to start. You will speak with your surgeon, anaesthetist and our specialist surgical nurses to go through your final preparations and ensure you are ready to proceed. You will then be taken into one of Cadogan Clinic’s three state-of-the-art operating theatres.
Your Revision Facelift will be carried out under a general anaesthetic, so you are asleep and comfortable throughout the procedure. All surgeries at Cadogan Clinic are performed using TIVA (Total Intravenous Anaesthesia), which increases patient comfort by reducing post-operative nausea and accelerating initial recovery.
Once your Revision Facelift has been completed, you will be taken to our recovery ward, where a nurse will monitor your heart rate, blood pressure, and temperature, and ensure you are comfortable as you wake up.
When you are ready, you will be transferred to our ambulatory ward, where you will have a private room. Our team of specialist surgical nurses will prepare you for discharge. You will have something to eat and drink, and you will discuss any medication and recovery steps you need to be aware of once you are home. Your chaperone will be asked to come, and you will leave the hospital to continue your recovery at home.
Revision Facelift recovery
Revision Facelift recovery depends on the exact procedure performed and the extent of the surgery. It is normal to experience some discomfort in the first few days of recovery, but this is usually managed with over-the-counter medications.
Throughout your recovery, you will have access to our specialist 24-hour aftercare phone line, to ask our specialist nurses any questions you have.
Depending on the extent of your Revision Facelift, most patients find they can return to most of their usual activities within 1-2 weeks, with initial healing (including bruising and swelling subsiding) taking 3-4 weeks.
You will have an in-person appointment with our specialist surgical nurses one week after your Revision Facelift, where they will assess your healing and check your dressings. They will also provide any information you need about further at-home aftercare.
You will meet with your Consultant Facial Surgeon six weeks after your Revision Facelift to discuss your results and recovery. They will also answer any questions you have about any ongoing aftercare you may require.
For most patients, structured care ends after 6-8 weeks unless further care is required. If you have any questions or concerns after this point, you will still be able to contact our specialist nursing team.

When should Facelift Surgery be revised?
Facelift Surgery should usually be revised in any case where the results are unsatisfactory and have a noticeable physical or emotional impact on the patient.
It is important to remember that different results will affect patients to varying extents, and that if you are unhappy with your Facelift results, you shouldn’t feel embarrassed about raising your concerns.
How long to wait for Revision Facelift?
The length of time you should wait for a Revision Facelift will depend on your concerns. In some cases, issues such as skin puckering around the incisions will resolve on their own, and won’t require further intervention, so your surgeon may ask you to be patient.
