Profhilo is a new injectable treatment which helps to effectively turn the clock back on the ageing process.
The treatment contains naturally occurring hyaluronic acid, which gives the skin a refreshed, youthful look.
Profhilo will leave your skin looking beautifully radiant for around six months before the treatment needs to be topped up.
When it comes to Profhilo vs dermal fillers, what are the differences, and how do you know which treatment is right for you?
Both of these injectable treatments target the signs of ageing in the face, such as skin laxity, which leads to wrinkles, and dullness. And both Profhilo and dermal fillers use the same key ingredient, hyaluronic acid, which occurs naturally in the skin.
But despite these similarities, the treatments work in different ways.
Dermal fillers have a thick, gel-like consistency. When fillers are injected into the treatment area, such as the cheeks or lips, the filler stays put, adding volume and shape to this area of the face only. Profhilo is a runny liquid and has a higher concentration of skin-boosting hyaluronic acid. Once injected, the product spreads underneath the skin, tightening and rejuvenating way beyond the injection site.
Unlike dermal fillers, Profhilo does not add volume to the treatment area, nor does it play any role in restructuring the face.
Profhilo and dermal fillers also target different areas of the body.
Profhilo can be injected into the cheeks, neck, hands, knees, stomach and décolletage (the neck and chest area). The treatment will tackle the signs of ageing, dullness and sagging in these areas without altering the structure.
Dermal fillers are commonly used to add volume to the lips and cheeks, reshape or add definition to the nose, chin and jawline, or fill indentations such as the temples and tear troughs (the area underneath the eyes). Fillers can also be used to tackle the tell-tale signs of ageing on the hands.
Profhilo is delivered in 10 different strategically placed shots. The treatment consists of two sessions, one month apart. Some improvement can be seen from one week after the first injection, but the results take full effect around one month after the second injection as the product needs time to spread and stimulate collagen production. The effects of Profhilo will last for around six months. As with other non-surgical treatments, this timeline varies from person to person and also depends on which part of the body is being treated.
Profhilo can take as little as 10 minutes to administer. There is no downtime associated with this treatment, so once your session is over, you are free to leave the clinic and carry on with your day-to-day activities as normal.
Profhilo is injected into pre-determined points to give what has been dubbed a ‘hydrolift’ effect that boosts hydration and tightens the skin.
Unlike dermal fillers, Profhilo stimulates collagen and elastin production, attracting water in the deeper layers of the skin. Hyaluronic acid, the active agent in Profhilo, can hold 1,000 times its weight in water, prompting significant moisturising activity in these deeper layers.
This results in a noticeable improvement in the skin tissue, resulting in a significant tightening and lifting effect.
The cost of Profhilo treatment at the Cadogan Clinic starts at £500 per session. Dermal fillers cost from £700 per vial/ml. It is worth bearing in mind that although Profhilo costs less than dermal fillers, more maintenance treatments are required to maintain the results. Dermal fillers typically last for up to 18 months before a top-up treatment is needed.
The final price will depend on how many areas of the body you want to be treated and whether you are combining these with any other non-surgical treatments, for example, Botox injections.
If you are seeking to improve the overall appearance of the skin, tackling the unwelcome signs of ageing, dullness and sagging, then Profhilo is highly recommended. The injectable is a great way of subtly improving the appearance of the skin without making any obvious structural changes. In short, if you want to look younger, more refreshed and rejuvenated without people knowing that you have had treatment, Profhilo is an excellent choice.
Dermal fillers are an excellent way of reshaping particular parts of the face, such as plumping the lips. Profhilo cannot change the structure of the face, for example changing the appearance of the nasal bridge. If you are looking to add volume or change the appearance of your facial features, then dermal fillers are the only non-surgical option available to you. Dermal fillers can also be used to treat scars including acne scarring or scars acquired through injury or surgery.
Another plus point for dermal fillers is that this particular treatment yield results immediately. So if you are after a quick fix ahead of a wedding, job interview or similar, dermal fillers are definitely the preferred option. If you are not satisfied with the results of your filler, the consultant can administer hyaluronidase, a naturally occurring enzyme that dissolves the filler almost instantly. It is then safely reabsorbed into the body, leaving no lasting damage or effect. Alternatively, further dermal filler can be used to ‘tweak’ areas that have already been treated in order to achieve an enhanced result.
