What is a Non-Surgical Face Lift?

A non-surgical facelift is a great way to tackle common signs of ageing, including wrinkles, loss of volume and increased skin laxity. Medical concerns such as hyperpigmentation and scarring can also be successfully treated with a non-surgical facelift.

The beauty of a non-surgical facelift is that it can be specifically tailored to you and your specific facial concerns.

A non-surgical facelift can include a combination of fat transfer to face and dermal fillers for volume and muscle freezing injections or treatments such as Ultherapy, lasers or radio-frequency for skin tightening.

Depending on the quality of the skin, your consultant may recommend a series of facial skin peels or other skin rejuvenating treatments such as micro-needling alongside your treatment plan.

The best non-surgical facelift patients are aged in their 30s or 40s, looking for a quick, effective, non-invasive alternative to a surgical facelift. A non-surgical facelift is also a good way to help maintain the results of a previous surgical facelift.

A non-surgical facelift produces the best results if the patient is displaying the early signs of ageing. If you have deep wrinkles or excessive skin laxity, the surgical alternative may be the best option for you.

It is worth noting that a non-surgical facelift only produces temporary results and the procedure will need to be repeated in order to maintain the overall results.

Why do people have it?

Non-Surgical Facelift treatment is designed to be the most comprehensive combination treatment to combat the ageing process.

The benefits of a Non-Surgical Facelift are both cosmetic and psychological, and include:

  • Rejuvenated facial appearance
  • Smoother, tightened surface skin
  • Reduced fine lines and wrinkles
  • Restored volume and facial proportions
  • Improved sense of emotional wellbeing

Words from our clients:

What does it involve?

Non-surgical facelift is a combination treatment designed to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and add volume in all areas of the face impacted by the ageing process. The overall effect is to deliver a refreshed, rejuvenated facial appearance. Common treatments included in a non surgical facelift treatment include:

Anti-ageing injectables are muscle relaxants that can be used to tackle frown lines and crow's feet. They also prevent new lines and wrinkles from appearing.

Chemical skin peels exfoliate the skin and encourage the production of fresh new skin cells, rejuvenating the face. We have a range of peels available here at the clinic which can be individually tailored to your skin type.

Dermal fillers are natural injectable fillers that restore the volume lost due to age-related collagen depletion. Fillers can be used on common problems including ageing lines, nasolabial folds, crow's feet and frown lines.

Fat transfer to face involves taking some of the body’s naturally occurring fat, processing it and putting it back into the face, adding volume and rejuvenating the overlying skin. This treatment is particularly good for parts of the face that have become sunken with age, such as the cheeks.

Laser skin resurfacing uses an intense laser beam to focus on specific parts of the face or the whole face. Laser skin resurfacing is good for treating fine lines, blotchy skin, acne scars and generally smoothing and tightening the skin.

Micro-needling uses small needles to puncture the skin. This encourages a wound healing response, renewing skin cells and prompting new collagen and elastin development. Microneedling treats acne and surgical scarring, enlarged pores, fine lines and wrinkles, loose and non-elastic skin and stretch marks.

Ultherapy uses ultrasound to lift, tone and tighten loose skin. This promotes a more youthful look by lifting the skin on the neck, under the chin and on the brow.

Why have a Non Surgical Facelift vs Surgical Facelift?

The benefit of a non-surgical facelift is that it is quick, non-invasive, does not require general anaesthetic and has very little downtime. It is also possible to stage the treatment over a period of several months so the effects appear gradually over time and appear subtle, and natural to others.

A surgical facelift is a better option if you are looking for more dramatic 'one-off' anti-ageing results that do not require ongoing maintenance and topping up.

We often recommend non-surgical facelifts for younger patients who are just beginning to experience the effects of ageing in their 30s and 40s, before having a surgical facelift at a later date. Equally, we also recommend a non-surgical facelift for those looking to top-up and maintain the results of their surgical facelift after a decade or so has elapsed.

Our specialist plastic surgeons can advise you on the best course of action, and determine a bespoke plan on your behalf.

What are the benefits of a Non-Surgical Facelift at Cadogan Clinic?

  • Effective, non-invasive treatment. There are no incisions made in the skin.
  • Performed by a highly experienced dermatologist or plastic surgeon. We have some of the country’s best practitioners working here at the Cadogan Clinic.
  • No downtime, and an immediate return to work and daily routine. You can carry on with life as normal, without having to take time off work to recuperate.
  • No need for a general anaesthetic. This means there is zero risk of complications often associated with general anaesthetic.
  • No scarring. As no cuts are made, this means no scars are left behind.
  • Immediate, natural-looking results. Unlike a surgical facelift, you will not have to wait to see your new face emerging. A non-surgical facelift produces natural-looking results as the technique uses the body’s own natural materials, such as harvested body fat, collagen or naturally occurring hyaluronic acid, which is used in dermal fillers.

Frequently Asked Questions

You are suitable for a non-surgical facelift if:

  • You are in good psychological and physical medical health
  • You have a positive outlook and realistic expectations of what can be achieved via treatment
  • You are seeking to eliminate or reduce signs of facial ageing
  • You are looking for a quick, effective, non-invasive solution, able to deliver long-lasting results
  • You are in your 30s and 40s and looking for an alternative to a surgical facelift, or delay the timing of when you may need one
  • You have already had a surgical facelift some years ago and are looking to maintain the results

Who performs the exact treatments will depend on what precise combination of treatments comprises your bespoke plan.

We only offer consultant-led anti-ageing injectable and dermal filler treatments, performed by highly trained cosmetic dermatologists or plastic surgeons.

The majority of our laser and Ultherapy treatments are also only delivered by cosmetic dermatologists or plastic surgeons. Some milder treatments such as chemical skin peels and micro-needling can be performed by one of our aesthetic practitioners.

The Cadogan Clinic takes patient safety and patient outcomes extremely seriously. We insist on high-quality treatments delivered by highly trained practitioners as part of our medical philosophy and medical ethics approach.

You should see immediate results following each individual treatment. The final results should start to fully resolve after about six weeks post-treatment. You can expect to see the best results three months after your non-surgical facelift treatment plan has ended. You should carefully follow all the aftercare instructions issued by your consultant to ensure you can enjoy the very best results from your non-surgical facelift.

Yes. The majority of treatments that comprise a non-surgical facelift are fully reversible.

That said, your consultant will look to layer results on top of each other gradually throughout your treatment plan, meaning you should be able to avoid a situation where results need to be reversed.

How long results last will depend on what type of treatment or procedure you get. With non-surgical procedures, it's likely you'll need to get them done regularly to maintain your desired results.

Your practitioner should advise you on when to return for a follow-up visit, but most patients will be able to tell on their own, as they'll notice the treatments wearing off.

With regular maintenance and proper treatment, it is possible for patients who start in their 30s to prevent the signs of ageing and maintain a very youthful look into their 50s.

In general, we consider non-surgical facelifts a temporary fix that can last one to two years, whereas a surgical facelift typically lasts 10 years.

Anti-ageing injectables and dermal fillers require no cuts, incisions or stitches to be made, but it can feel like a tiny scratch or stinging sensation as the needle goes in and the treatment is applied.

Laser, micro-needling and Ultherapy treatments should also involve minimal pain.

For those feeling anxious, we can use a local anaesthetic to numb the area completely.

Non-surgical facelift injections are very safe. Possible side effects include temporary bruising, swelling and asymmetry.

By avoiding surgery, however, you will avoid many of the side effects and risks associated with a more invasive approach.

Downtime is very minimal, and most patients are able to return to their normal activities immediately after their treatment.

If you experience some swelling and bruising in the treated area, you should be able to cover any bruising with makeup.

Non-surgical facelifts are not permanent, typically lasting between one and two years, depending on the type of procedure or treatment which has been carried out. However, there are certain things you can do to maintain your results.

We strongly recommend that you quit smoking. Smoking is a major cause of premature ageing. Repetitive inhaling causes deep wrinkles to form around the eyes and mouth, while nicotine can cause blood vessels to narrow, leading to a reduced amount of oxygen and important nutrients reaching the skin cells. This can often result in an uneven skin tone. Smoking also leads to puffiness around the eyes and deep lines between the eyebrows. Quitting smoking is one of the best things you can do for your skin.

You should also avoid excessive sun exposure. The sun’s UV rays damage the elastic fibres, causing the skin to wrinkle and sag. Just like smoking, excessive exposure to the sun is one of the biggest preventable causes of premature ageing.

Eventually, you will need further treatments to maintain the results of your non-surgical facelift. If you are looking for a more permanent solution, speak to one of our specialists about a surgical facelift.

A non-surgical facelift is a minimally invasive alternative to a surgical facelift. Unlike a surgical facelift, there are no incisions, no downtime and the results can be seen immediately.

A non-surgical facelift, along with the micro facelift, is a more modern approach to a facelift. These non-surgical treatments work better on younger skin only displaying minor signs of ageing. When it comes to drooping, sagging skin and deep-set wrinkles on the face, a surgical facelift is the best option.

A surgical facelift is the only option to achieve a permanent result.
