Sculptra® is a temporary facial injectable used to add volume to areas of the face and body to create a soft, natural, more youthful recontouring of the face.
Sculptra® works by stimulating collagen production over a period of time, with results lasting for up to 2 years, however with annual upkeep, you can keep the results looking wonderful for 5-10 years.
People are choosing to use more Sculptra® treatments to build up new collagen naturally over time, as opposed to filler which can often look overdone. The great thing about this is that as you’re ageing, the collagen is going to continue to build, so you’re ageing backwards and becoming more youthful-looking as time passes.
Results are achieved by injecting Sculptra into targeted areas to create an overall volumized effect on the face. Sculptra can also be used to help contour the body.
+ Hollow cheeks
+ Softening bony cheekbones
+ Nasolabial and melolabial folds (nose to mouth/mouth to chin)
+ Hollow chin area
+ Defining the jawline
+ Hollow temples
Sculptra® is made from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a synthetic and biocompatible gel comprised of the same lactic acid that occurs naturally in the body - a very similar material to dissolvable stitches and soft tissue implants. Once injected, it works to generate collagen production that is significant enough to fill out facial contours, grooves, and hollows, and add a lifted effect to cheeks. Results are not immediate.
As we age, our skin naturally loses its elasticity, tightness and suppleness through the loss of collagen. Even women as young as their 30’s can benefit from having Sculptra® treatments as it gives you the foundation for keeping your collagen strong in the long term. Because of the way it encourages your body’s cells to create new collagen, it can dramatically improve your skin health, which gives your skin a nice dewy look, often referred to as the ‘Sculptra® Glow’.
This is an ideal treatment for anyone looking for a more youthful look that develops over time, with longer-lasting results and less frequent maintenance.
As with all injectable fillers and treatments, the technique is essential to achieving the best possible results. At Cadogan Clinic, our dermatologists and surgeons have extensive experience and use the most advanced techniques for the greatest outcome.
There are two main points of difference between Sculptra® and the other popular dermal fillers:
1. Sculptra® is a temporary filler that cannot be dissolved like hyaluronic acid fillers via hyaluronidase.
2. The results of Sculptra® do not appear immediately, but the effects are the longest lasting. As opposed to regular derma fillers which are administered once and have immediate results, Sculptra® is administered over multiple injections and takes several weeks before you see the volumizing effects of new collagen filling and lifting targeted areas.
During your initial consultation, we will discuss how much Sculptra® will be needed for your case and which areas it will be administered to give you the desired effect.
Sculptra is specially created to replace lost collagen in the mid to lower face area including the nasolabial folds, tear trough, cheeks, jowls and chin. It can also restore lost volume to the temples. It is not recommended for the glabella area or lips. Your consultant will advise what is best for you during your initial consultation.
Sculptra starts at £675, however this will depend on your particular case. This can only be determined during a consultation and how much product is needed.
As Sculptra targets the underlying causes of the signs of ageing, the results can emerge subtly and last more than two years. In the first few weeks you will see some visible results but as the production of new collagen is a gradual process, optimum results will be seen following several treatment sessions.
Following a Sculptra treatment, it is completely normal to have some redness and swelling in the area treated so if you have an event planned it may be best to bear this in mind. Within the first 24 hours you may want to help reduce swelling by using a cloth-wrapped ice pack on the area for a few minutes at a time. Your practitioner will advise you to massage the treated area for five minutes five times a day for five days and avoid excess sunlight/UV exposure until any redness subsides. He or she will provide you with Sculptra aftercare instructions during your consultation.
The effects of Sculptra can last for up to two years compared to most other injectables which last for a few months.
As with any injectable treatment, some discomfort may be felt depending on your pain threshold. Your consultant will give you advice on what you may experience during a Sculptra treatment during your consultation and it is possible to use a numbing cream on the area first to minimise any discomfort.
Sculptra is a safe treatment, FDA approved in the United States and has been used worldwide since 1999. Sculptra is made of a synthetic material called poly-L-lactic acid that is absorbed naturally by the body and has been used for years in dissolvable stitches. It should not be used by those allergic to any of the ingredients, those with a history of keloid scarring or when there is an active skin infection.
Sculptra is a facial injectable treatment targets the underlying causes of ageing and works gradually over a series of treatments. An average of 3 injection sessions with an interval of 4 to 6 weeks between each session stimulates your skin's collagen growth to give a more rejuvenated and youthful-looking appearance. Over time, results will become more and more visible and can last more than two years.
