Sculptra® is a facial injectable used to add volume to areas of the face to create a soft, natural, more youthful recontouring of the face. It builds your own collagen that has naturally disappeared wtih time. Results are achieved by replacing lost collagen deep in the dermis where the skin’s structure finds its foundation. It is best for adding volume to:

  • hollow cheeks
  • softening boney cheekbones
  • nasolabial and melolabial folds (nose to mouth/mouth to chin)
  • hollow chin area
  • defining the jawline
  • hollow temples

Sculptra® is made from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a synthetic gel comprised of the same lactic acid that occurs naturally in the body - a very similar material to dissolvable stitches. Once injected, it works to generate collagen production that is significant enough to fill out facial contours, grooves, and hollows, and add a lifted effect to cheeks.

There are two main points of difference between Sculptra and the other popular dermal fillers:

1- Sculptra® cannot be dissolved like other fillers via the enzyme injection, hyaluronidase. That does not mean that Sculptra is a permanent filler, however, just like dissolvable stitches, your body will gradually and naturally absorb it over a period of about six months.

2- The results of Sculptra® do not appear immediately, but the effects are the longest lasting. Sculptra® is administered over multiple injections and takes several weeks before you see the volumizing effects of new collagen filling and lifting targeted areas.

Frequently Asked Questions

Sculptra is specially created to replace lost collagen in the mid to lower face area including the nasolabial folds, tear trough, cheeks, jowls and chin. It can also restore lost volume to the temples. It is not recommended for the glabella area or lips. Your consultant will advise what is best for you during your initial consultation.

Sculptra starts at £675, however this will depend on your particular case. This can only be determined during a consultation and how much product is needed.

As Sculptra targets the underlying causes of the signs of ageing, the results can emerge subtly and last more than two years. In the first few weeks you will see some visible results but as the production of new collagen is a gradual process, optimum results will be seen following several treatment sessions.

Following a Sculptra treatment it is completely normal to have some redness and swelling in the area treated so if you have an event planned it may be best to bear this in mind. Within the first 24 hours you may want to help reduce swelling by using a cloth wrapped ice pack on the area for a few minutes at a time. Your practitioner will advise you to massage the treated area for five minutes five times a day for five days and avoid excess sunlight/UV exposure until any redness subsides. He or she will provide you with Sculptra aftercare instructions during your consultation.

The effects of Sculptra can last for up to two years compared to most other injectables which last for a few months.

As with any injectable treatment, some discomfort may be felt depending on your pain threshold. Your consultant will give you advice on what you may experience during a Sculptra treatment during your consultation and it is possible to use a numbing cream on the area first to minimise any discomfort.

Sculptra is a safe treatment, FDA approved in the United States and has been used worldwide since 1999. Sculptra is made of a synthetic material called poly-L-lactic acid that is absorbed naturally by the body and has been used for years in dissolvable stitches. It should not be used by those allergic to any of the ingredients, those with a history of keloid scarring or when there is an active skin infection.

Sculptra is a facial injectable treatment targets the underlying causes of ageing and works gradually over a series of treatments. An average of 3 injection sessions with an interval of 4 to 6 weeks between each session stimulate your skin's collagen growth to give a more rejuvenated and youthful-looking appearance. Over time, results will become more and more visible and can last more than two years.
