Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

An abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, tightens excessive or loose skin on your tummy and torso.

Losing weight was one of the biggest challenges in my late twenties. Heading into my thirties I decided to make permanent change and accept that this was a lifestyle amendment. In the start of 2018, I decided to take the plunge and sign up to a weight loss specialist personal trainer and go on a permanent weight loss journey.

7 months fast forward, I successfully lost 30kg through consistent training and clean eating. I felt like a new woman. Happier, lighter and also looked and felt 5 years younger.

Sadly on the flip side, I was left with some loose skin on my lower abdomen. I started to train more, specifically for my core abdomen area but realised there was too much loss in elasticity for me to achieve the stomach I’ve always dreamed of.

After some intense research on the internet, I realised that a tummy tuck would be the best option for me. I came across Mr Van Niekerk's work and saw some of his previous tummy tuck patients and immediately knew he was the consultant I wanted. I was able to get a consultation very quickly to see him and knew this was the right decision for me.

After discussing my options with him, we decided to go ahead with a full abdominoplasty with flank liposuction.

Deciding to start the process

Before I met Mr Van Niekerk, I was thinking about the end picture and wondered how my end result would look like. I wondered if this will change my life in a positive way, and how I would finally have the body I worked so hard for. I was also nervous and a little embarrassed as this was a flaw of mine that I had never exposed or discussed with anyone and which also was new to me. I continued doing research and reading other Tummy Tuck forums to gain more knowledge and to learn more about the procedure.

Meeting with the consultant

On the day of my consultation, I was excited to meet Mr Brandford as I was intrigued to know what he could do for me. I was feeling very overwhelmed but excited at the same time. He put me at ease immediately answering all the questions I had prepared and had in my mind in relation to my aftercare, how the scars will look like and if this would have any complications in the long run.

Booking your surgery

When deciding whether to book surgery, I was still feeling anxious but weighing up against the excitement of how this decision was the right choice for me and would make my dream come true. Before booking, I made sure my family members were able to take time off to align this with my surgery dates.

On the day of Surgery

I was thinking about how I needed to keep positive and how it will all be ok thought feeling very nervous and anxious. I spoke to the nurses who were helping me keep calm and assuring me.

Post-Surgery

After surgery, I made sure to rest and made sure I was consuming the right nutrients that my body needed. I was so happy with results and thought the overwhelming feeling that the impact was only going to look better as time goes on. I realised that this was the best decision of my life.
