Sun Damage and Sunspots

UVA rays from the sun reach the deeper dermis, and they are responsible for ageing and wrinkling of the skin. The UV rays damage the production of collagen in the skin, they also damage and increase the breakdown of elastin fibres. This results in a loss of strength, elasticity and thickness of the skin and is responsible for producing the sallow colour and leather-like texture.

Sun spots have the appearance of flat brown spots that show up on the parts of the skin that have had excessive sun exposure. They are most common on face, hands, shoulders, arms and on the scalp of bald people. They will darken and increase in number with ongoing exposure to UV light.
