Implant replacement is a procedure commonly chosen when a person would like to replace an aged implant, or would like to change the size or shape of an original implant. On rare occasions, implants can be removed for health reasons, such as capsular contracture.

Regrettably, implant replacement has become increasingly popular in light of recent concerns raised around the quality of implants after the PIP controversy, when disreputable providers utilised poor-quality materials in a bid to cut costs.

The Cadogan Clinic is one of very few facilities never to have used low-quality PIP products; sadly, other clinics have not made the same commitment to these high standards of healthcare practice in the past. As such, we are a trusted source for anyone needing implant replacement with a safe, high-quality alternative. We have built a world-leading reputation for the replacement of implants carried out by lower-end cosmetic clinics, and we strongly recommend that you contact us if you are experiencing any irritation or inflammation in your chest area and think you may have been exposed to PIP implants in the past.

However, if you have previously had breast implant surgery at the Cadogan Clinic, you can rest assured your implants are of the highest quality and are not PIP implants.

Whatever your personal reasons, Breast Implant Surgery at the Cadogan Clinic will provide the leading UK consultants, techniques and facilities for your treatment. Our expert team is acutely aware that the appearance of your body can affect your confidence and everyday happiness, and as such we handle each case with sensitivity and discretion. You can rest assured your implant replacement, performed at our state-of-the-art, purpose-built, central London clinic, will deliver the results you desire.

Frequently Asked Questions

As with the original breast augmentation, the procedure is carried out under general anaesthetic. Breast re-augmentation (i.e. implant replacement) is usually quite straightforward and less painful than the first procedure as the pocket is already there, although you should certainly expect some discomfort.

If implants are removed and not replaced, then pain is generally minimal. However, if the implants and capsules (i.e. scar tissue around the old implant) are removed, then you should expect pain similar to the original procedure. If only the implants are removed, then pain is generally minimal. However, if the capsules (i.e. scar tissue around the old implant) are also removed, then you should expect pain similar to the original procedure.

Implants can be replaced for many reasons, including wanting to change the shape or size of the implants, breasts change due to weight loss or gain, age or having children, or if implants rupture.

Breast implants do not have an expiration date. They only need to be replaced in the very rare case whereby they break or rupture, which is usually a result of sub-standard implants or sub-standard surgery. This is not serious or a health risk, but may cause a change in shape or feel of the implant necessitating its removal.

The Cadogan Clinic has become a well-known provider of implant replacement services as our reputation as a trusted cosmetics provider has been enhanced following the PIP scandal that implicated so many of our competitors. It remains one of our most commonly performed procedures.

What to expect

Free Consultation with a Patient Advisor

We offer a free, no-obligation 30-60 minute consultation with one of our Patient Advisors. They will work with you to understand your objectives and the results you want to achieve, talk you through the procedure and answer any questions you may have. If you decide that you would like to proceed to the next step and see a surgeon, your Patient Advisor will be happy to arrange this for you. At this point, you will be required to pay a consultation fee.

Surgical Consultation

The next step is for you to meet your chosen surgeon at the Cadogan Clinic. Your surgeon will use this time to make a comprehensive medical assessment of you, your condition, and your expectations before making a recommendation and personalised treatment plan for you. You will then discuss the outcomes you can expect to see and ask any questions.

The Procedure

On the day of your procedure you will be welcomed at the Cadogan Clinic by your Patient Advisor and dedicated nursing staff. Following a brief medical check, you will meet with both your surgeon and anaesthetist to run through the details of your procedure one final time and answer any last questions you may have.

Recovery

After the procedure, you will recover in the capable hands of our aftercare team. As we are a day-case facility you can expect your recovery to be complete within 2 to 3 hours. If your surgeon is happy with your results, you will be able to be discharged from the Clinic the very same day. In some cases, patients may wish to stay locally in our exclusive partner hotel the day before or after your procedure in order to be close to their surgeon. Talk to us about these options if this is for you.

After Care & Support

Our care and support continues in the days and weeks following your procedure with our complimentary aftercare programme. This comprised of a series of appointments made with your surgeon and nursing team to monitor your progress and recovery. They will also introduce you to several scar minimization techniques and bespoke products to aid your progress. Our team are also on call to answer any questions you have around your surgery at any time you are concerned.
