Excess Skin

Excess skin is ageing skin and a fact of life. With age, skin loses its elasticity and secreting glands. It becomes dull, dry and floppy. Certain factors speed up the process and are too be avoided and practical measures can reverse it or at least disguise it.

Yes, you need a proper diet, but not too much! Overeating stretches the skin beyond its capability to retract. Sadly, pregnancy does the same thing with the addition of the aptly named circulating hormone, Relaxin. On the other hand, the starvation of anorexia leaves hollow faces and breasts, buttocks and arms hanging.

We know exercise is great, but don’t overdo it! It is not just the worn-out joints, it the health-giving sun. We need sun for happiness and to avoid the weak bones of Vitamin D deficiency. However not too much.  Look what it does to the beautiful lady tennis players as they grow older, and we don’t see the beach volleyball girls at all!

The first responsibility is with ourselves with a healthy lifestyle. No smoking, of course.

Then you will find help from our Aestheticians to improve skin quality with creams, peels, micro needling and lasers and tightening with Accent, Ulthera, fractional resurfacing and Indiba.

The dermatologists are involved from the beginning, and increasingly so, as problems increase, and premalignant and malignant lesions appear.

Our plastic surgeons are watching and ready to step in. Much of the loose skin of the face is really the result of a loss of volume of fat, muscle and bone. Skin tightening surgically with facelifts, mini-facelifts, micro-facelifts, threads and sutures is now so much less invasive, but more effective with minimal downtime.

Similarly, with the breasts, we replace lost volume with implants or your own fat and tighten the skin where necessary by Mastopexy (Breast Lift).

Extra skin of the arms and legs (Brachioplasty, Thigh Reduction and Buttock Lift) is removed, whilst the post-pregnancy and post weight loss tummy is treated, where necessary, by repair of stretched muscle ligaments as well as skin reduction (Mini- Tummy Tuck and Brazilian Abdominoplasty), all carried out a day case surgery.
