With over 220 million videos posted on TikTok with the hashtag #chlorophyll and a cult following of celebrities who are praising the ingredient, chlorophyll is the latest skincare craze, being hailed as a miracle for acne, rosacea and other inflammatory skin conditions. Dr Mayou spoke with Mail+, warning that the ingredient hasn’t undergone studies to prove its efficacy and highlights the potential risk over the quality of products. She also advises that people with severe acne should be seeking treatment from a dermatologist.

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that makes your face turn red and may cause swelling and skin sores that look like acne. It typically occurs in people with fair skin between the ages of 30 and 50 and is more common in women than men.
