Patches of hard skin, called calluses, are very common on most people’s feet. Localised and deep hard-skin areas with a central core are called corns. Both of these lesions are caused by a reaction of your skin to pressure or friction.
Your podiatrist can painlessly remove these calluses and corns to enable you to walk comfortably again. Your podiatrist can also develop a treatment plan to help prevent these conditions or to permanently make your feet more comfortable.

Your podiatrist and podiatry surgery can help you with the management and improvement of many other skin conditions and diseases such as:
At the Cadogan Clinic, your podiatrist will recommend appropriate treatment or cosmetic foot surgery and may use instruments to remove cracked or dead skin. Some dermatological problems also respond to our Low Level Laser Therapy.
A variety of approaches and podiatric surgery solutions can be taken to address some of the above foot conditions:
At Cadogan Clinic, we carry out painless nail and cosmetic foot surgery under local anaesthetic. We do this by using an anaesthetic injection similar to that used by dentists.
A small piece of nail is removed from the side of the toe that is problematic and a chemical is applied to prevent that piece of nail growing back again.
Sometimes the degree of the nail problem means that we may need to remove the whole nail during podiatric surgery.
Cryosurgery is a proven and popular treatment for verrucae and uses liquid nitrogen to freeze the infected area. It generally has a good success rate and over a course of treatment at a frequency of every two to three weeks the verrucae slowly resolve. This treatment can sometimes be unsuitable for some patients such as young children or the elderly.
If you have long standing corns and verrucae, electrosurgery may be the answer for you. Electrosurgery uses electrical currents to destroy skin lesions. At Cadogan Clinic, our electrosurgery unit creates a controllable low power electrical current between an electrode and a plate held against the skin. This enables us to target and destroy localised areas of tissue (verrucae or corns) at the site of the operating electrode.
