Localised fatty deposits of the hips are common and create an exaggeration of the normal female sexual characteristic. A leaner, svelter figure can help improve a woman’s self-image and confidence. It is for this reason that hip liposuction has become an extremely common cosmetic surgery. As a world-recognised centre for liposuction, Cadogan Clinic is an excellent choice to investigate your options for this life changing procedure.
To learn more about hip lipo in London or to book a consultation with one of our consultants, please call 020 7901 8500 or fill in the form on this website and we will respond to you by email or phone.
As with any medical procedure, it is important to maintain realistic expectations regarding results and these will be discussed at the consultation with the consultant.
What happens during hip liposuction?
A small incision for the insertion of the local anaesthesia and the suction tube (cannulae) or laser is hidden in the buttock fold or placed laterally above or below the bulge.
Before hip liposuction: The surgeon agrees with you the precise areas of the body from where fat is to be removed and marks the skin with a pen. Photographs will be taken for the records and will be ready for comparison with after photographs, usually taken 3-6 months later. You and your doctor may opt for general anaesthesia or local anaesthesia with or without a sedative for relaxation.
During hip liposuction: The surgeon makes a tiny incision in the skin, typically in or near the buttock crease and inserts a thin tube called a cannula into the fatty area. The unwanted fat is suctioned out with a powerful vacuum, leaving the skin, muscles, nerves and blood vessels intact. The procedure takes between one and two hours.
After hip liposuction: You may be allowed to return home within a few hours of your hip fat removal surgery and spend the night in the comfort of your own home.
• Liposuction may be used as part of another procedure such as breast reduction or combined with other completely different procedures such as breast augmentation or gynaecological procedures. This utilises the same anaesthesia and is more efficient and cost effective for the patient.
• You will feel bruised and perhaps uncomfortable, but will not have severe pain. Generally there is some numbness in the area treated. Simple painkillers such as Paracetamol are usually adequate to control discomfort.
• Patients who have had large amounts of fat removed in addition to the hips can feel a little weak, whilst they recover from the temporary anaemia due to bruising and blood loss.
• Patients can take a shower or bath two days after hip lipo treatment and after that, will not require any further dressings.
• Visible bruising will disappear over the next three weeks.
• You should be able to return to work within a few days if your work is fairly sedentary.
• You should see some visible result of hip lipo surgery within two or three weeks, but the full effects may not be evident for three to six months or a year in case of the ankles.
