Botox / Dysport Questions

What is Botox / Dysport?

Botox or Dysport works by relaxing the dynamic facial muscles that are responsible for facial wrinkles. This relaxation is achieved by blocking the nerve transmission to these muscles under the skin.
The main areas treated by this procedure are the frown, eye and forehead areas. After a few painless Botox injections you can carry on your normal day and wait for lines to soften over the next 3-5 days. This relaxed, fresher look will stay with you for 3-6 months. Botox treatment can also be used for preventing excessive perspiration in underarms.

Is Botox / Dysport Safe?

Yes, Botox injections have been approved by the FDA for cosmetic use and has been used for over 30 years without any known long-term problems.

Is Botox / Dysport Painful?

Receiving Botox / Dysport treatment is not normally painful. Some people do, however, experience mild discomfort. The smallest needles are used for the procedure.

What Happens After the Botox / Dysport Treatment?

There is a slight redness immediately after you receive your Botox injections, which settles within a few hours. Application of ice helps and it is easily covered with makeup. Within 4 hours of the treatment we advise you do not to do vigorous exercise, drink excessive alcohol or lie down flat. Otherwise life can carry on as normal.

How Long Does Botox / Dysport Last?

The effects of Botox treatment start to show in about 3-5 days. The greatest effect is seen after about 1-2 weeks. It will last about 3-6 months depending on each individual's own response. Repeat Botox treatments have been shown to last longer.

Does Botox / Dysport Leave Me Expressionless?

Some patients worry about Botox / Dysport leaving their faces expressionless. The consultant's training enables them to minimise any possible loss of facial expressions by only injecting the muscles responsible for the wrinkles.

What Are Botox / Dysport Side-Effects?

Botox / Dysport is a very safe cosmetic procedure, side-effects can occur but are rare. Botox side-effects can include slight bruising at the injection site, slight drooping of the eyelid, which would only last for a week or so after the Botox treatment and headaches.

Restylane Questions

What Are Fillers?

Youthful skin is rich in hyaluronic acid. As we age, the distribution and function of hyaluronic acid in our skin gradually change, leading to the characteristic signs of aging. The consultants and doctors at the Cadogan Clinic generally make use of the filler Restylane. Restylane fillers enhance your natural looks by restoring your skin's volume, creating softness and revitalising your appearance. It corrects moderate to severe wrinkles and folds around the nose and mouth.

Find out more by calling the clinic on 020 7901 8500.

How Does Restylane Work?

The filler is injected into the skin in tiny amounts with a very small needle. Anaesthetic is not normally needed around the nose but the lip area is a lot more sensitive and may require either topical or a local anaesthetic. This cosmetic procedure is quick and usually takes less than 30 minutes.

Is Restylane Safe?

Restylane is safe and adverse reactions are. The uniquely produced hyaluronic acid gel of Restylane closely resembles natural hyaluronic acid. This reduces the risk of an inflammatory reaction or other side-effects.

Does Restylane Leave Me Expressionless?

Restylane gives you flexibility and control over your looks. As your face changes shape as you age, you want to avoid a permanent look you might regret in years to come. There are a few different types of Restylane they are all used for different parts of the body and to achieve different results, the doctor will go over this with you in more detail once he/she knows what you want the result to be.

What Happens After Restylane Treatment?

The benefits can be seen straight away with Restylane. Although immediately after the treatment, there will be slight swelling redness tenderness and an itchy sensation in the treated area. The inconvenience is temporary and generally disappears in a few days. The initial swelling after lip treatment may last longer - this can last up to a week and the lips may be slightly uneven during this time. This means that the result directly after the treatment should not be seen as the final result.

Patients can resume their daily activities immediately after the treatment. Patients need to avoid touching the treated area for about 6 hours post treatment, after that the area can be washed with soap and water and light makeup can be applied.

How Long Will Restylane Last?

Restylane products are long-lasting but not permanent, because of this you have the choice to continue or change the combination of treatments. Most patients choose to have a follow-up 6-12 months after an initial treatment of wrinkles. Where lips have been treated a follow-up treatment is normally needed after 6 months.
