What is a Breast Lift?

Breast lift surgery or mastoplexy is usually investigated by women who are unhappy with the drooping of the breasts that are experiencing following weight loss, pregnancy or due to a loss of skin elasticity that comes with aging.

What Should You Know About Breast Lift Aftercare?

If you’re curious about what happens after a breast lift procedure, the following information will help address most of concerns you may have.

Breast Feeding and Pregnancy

Whether you can breast feed or not will mainly depend on the number of milk ducts left intact after surgery and whether your nipple is still connected to them. Most patients who have had a breast lift will not be able to breast feed after the procedure.

Age and Changes in Body Weight

Because skin loses its elasticity with age, your breasts may become droopy as you age. If you gain weight after the procedure, your breasts will also change in size and weight.

Mammography

While breast lift surgery has no effect on your risk of developing breast cancer, you should inform your radiographer that you have had breast lift surgery prior to a mammography.

Sensation

Temporary or permanent changes in nipple sensation are reported by about 15% of women after having breast lift surgery.

Scars

Your surgeon will aim to leave as little scar tissue on your skin as possible. Any scar tissue that is created from the breast lift procedure, however, is permanent. You should have a discussion in regards to scar placement with your surgeon prior to the operation so that your results meet your expectations.
