An innovation in fat grafting

Areas in which fat is currently used to improve contours are in the face, to plump out the cheeks and nasolabial furrows, lips and eyelids, in the backs of the hands and fingers, and in the body for breast augmentation and fat dimpling as in cellulite and defects left after liposuction. 

The advantage of the technique is that we are using the patient’s own tissue rather than foreign or artificial tissue.  It also seems that the tissues, which the fat is imported, improves in quality, which is useful for old skin and skin damaged by radiotherapy.

Disadvantages are that:

• The procedure often has to be repeated to build up contours
• It is time consuming
• It is relatively expensive
