The Cadogan Clinic is London’s first aesthetic day surgery. Where other hospitals and clinics might take in patients for overnight stints, the Cadogan is able to complete work on a day case basis. This is facilitated by their use of an anaesthetic generally little known by those not in the medical profession, called Tiva. Tiva does not send the patient into the heavy sleep induced by older anaesthetics, hence post-operation side effects, such as grogginess, sickness or raised blood pressure, are unlikely. Discharging a patient just a few hours post-operation becomes possible.
Twenty-two consultants work at the clinic, and three quarters of them specialise in plastic surgery. Hence facial, ear, breast and body contouring surgery are available. Ophthalmoplastic surgery (eyelid surgery), liposuction, dermatology and treatment of varicose veins also take place here.
The Clinic also operates a skin cancer care unit; mole mapping is currently one of the most popular procedures.
In many other clinics, a nurse might be seen before an appointment with a consultant is made. However, the Cadogan Clinic offers patients an initial consultation directly with a consultant. Interestingly, less than half of initial consultations lead to surgery. This statistic indicates that consultants here place ethics before economics - before a consultant agrees to perform surgery, they take into careful consideration the client’s need for surgery and whether their expectations of what can be achieved are realistic.
Two names well known in the world of cosmetic surgery; Bryan Mayou, and his wife Susan. Bryan is a consultant specialising in liposuction and Susan is a Consultant Dermatologist. She is also Secretary and co-founder of the British Cosmetic Dermatology Group. Behind the business aspect of the clinic is Maitland Cook, who has 35 years experience in developing healthcare facilities.
Cadogan Clinic aims to ensure the highest level of care is maintained through the continued recruitment of the UKs leading surgeons and employing a high nurse to patient ratio.
Plans are also afoot for the opening of a histapathology lab on the second floor. When a patient is concerned that a mole or other skin blemish is cancerous and a biopsy and test for skin cancer is done on the NHS, it may take more than a week to receive results. However, with a lab in the building, patients at the Cadogan Clinic will only need to wait an afternoon for their the result of their test. If necessary, treatment could be started on the same day.
We presently have a same day Histopathology service but not on site. If the patient is seen before 10:30 then we can still return the results same day.
