Where other hospitals and clinics might take in patients for overnight stints, the Cadogan is able to complete work on a day case basis. This is facilitated by their use of an anaesthetic generally little known by those not in the medical profession, called TIVA.

TIVA does not send the patient into the heavy sleep induced by older anaesthetic, hence post-operation side effects, such as grogginess, sickness or raised blood pressure, is unlikely. Discharging a patient just a few hours post-operation becomes possible. However no patient is discharged until they are comfortable and ready to go home.

The adoption of day case surgery has been greatly aided by the development of TIVA (Total Intravenous Anaesthesia), which allows patients to recover much more rapidly than traditional forms of general anaesthesia. TIVA is used commonly in the United States for most outpatient cosmetic surgery procedures

TIVA, a newer anaesthetic technique very well suited to small to medium sized operations (such as breast augmentation). When administered by a qualified anaesthetist in a properly monitored setting, TIVA provides a comfortable and sound sleep without many of the unpleasant side effects of a full, traditional general anaesthetic.

No breathing tubes or ventilators are required because there is minimal decrease of the breathing rate and blood pressure, so patients breathe calmly and slowly on their own.

TIVA patients feel no pain and experiencing no anxiousness as they sleep. Waking is quick and comfortable and patients have no memory of their procedure.
