  5. Will my visit remain confidential?
We ask for your personal information so that you can receive appropriate care and treatment.  This information will be recorded on your secure computer system.  We are registered under the Data Protection Act 1998.  We take every possible step to ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.

  6. What happens at the initial consultation?
On your arrival, you will be greeted by one of our receptionists, who will ask you to confirm your appointment.  There is a pleasant, comfortable waiting area where refreshments are available. At the appointed time, you will be directed to the relevant consulting room.  A confidential consultation will take place with your consultant in the privacy of a single room.  You may ask for a chaperone during any consultation. During the consultation, your consultant will explain thoroughly any treatment you may require and the process for the treatment to take place.  You can ask any questions during the consultation.  If after the consultation you still have some concerns, you will be able to talk to a nurse or the relevant consultant's secretary, who can either answer your concerns or ask the consultant to contact you.  You will always be assured that no treatment will be undertaken without your full consent.

  7. Would I be suitable for surgery?
As outcomes are never entirely predictable, the pre-admission nurse will contact you by telephone prior to your surgery to carry out a pre-operative risk assessment to identify if you are entirely fit for your procedure. A pre-operative risk assessment establishes that you are fully informed and wish to undergo the procedure. It also ensures that you are fit enough to undergo the surgery and anaesthetic.

  8. What happens during treatments or procedures?
At the appointed time you will be escorted to the clinical area and see your consultant prior to the commencement of your treatment. A private area in the ambulatory care unit will be made available to you for post treatment relaxation.  This area is staffed by a nurse who will attend to your needs. Should your treatment require sedation, you will spend the immediate post treatment period in the recovery area under the supervision of your recovery nurse and anaesthetist before leaving.  For more information, please read about the specific procedure, under the treatments section.

  9. What kind of anaesthetic is used?
There are different types of anaesthetic that may be used in order that your surgeon can carry out the treatment or surgery you are having with minimum discomfort. The different types are as follows:

    Local Anaesthetic (LA)
The surgeon injects a numbing solution to the area that is being treated to minimise any discomfort you may feel during the procedure. You will be fully awake during the treatment and able to be immediately discharged after the treatment.

    General Anaesthetic (GA)
The Cadogan Clinic offers a modern and patient-friendly approach to general anaesthesia for its patients: TIVA - Total Intravenous Anaesthesia. This type of anaesthetic provides comfortable sleep without many of the unpleasant side effects of a full, traditional general anaesthetic. Unlike most general anaesthetics, there is minimal decrease of the breathing rate and blood pressure so patients breathe calmly and slowly on their own. No breathing tubes or ventilators are required. TIVA is a full anaesthetic and patients sleep soundly during the entire operation, feeling no pain and experiencing no anxiousness. They wake quickly and comfortably with no memory of their procedure. The technique is used commonly in the United States for most outpatient cosmetic surgery procedures with an extremely high degree of patient safety and patient acceptance.

  10. What happens during aftercare?
Following any treatment, a follow up telephone call will be made by a nurse to establish your satisfaction with the service provided, and to deal, with any problems that may have arisen.

  11. What are the fees for treatment?
    See "Our Transparent Fees" section.

  12. Are the premises accessible?
The premises are purpose built and are therefore able to accommodate all patients' needs.

  13. What is your complaints procedure?
The Clinic Director aims to ensure your visit to the Cadogan Clinic is a satisfactory and positive experience.  However, if you are dissatisfied with any part of your visit, you can make a complaint verbally, in writing or by email to the clinic's secretary who will forward your complaint to the Clinic Director (see email below). The secretary will report it in writing to the responsible person, who will, on receipt of the complaint, acknowledge it in writing within 2 working days of receipt.  The Clinic Director will then investigate the complaint as exhaustively as possible and give you a full reply, in writing of the outcome and any action taken as a result of your complaint, within 20 working days.
